The nerdy wordy game that can help you find something to watch, listen to or read
Not Quite Hangman is a word game a bit like Hangman. The game contains three packs of 1000 questions: Movies, Albums and Books. Each question is a title that must be guessed by revealing letter tiles one by one.
The aim of the single player game is to score as many points as possible before using up all your coins and lifelines. Wrong letter guesses cost one coin. Once you think you know the phrase you can click the “I know it” button to score points, but after that one wrong guess means Game Over.
The multiplayer game is simpler. Here you choose how many questions you would like in the match. For each question you reveal tiles one by one until you know it, ideally before your opponent(s) do. In this game there are no coins, bonuses or lifelines.
All the answers come from top lists of movies, books or albums, so you can use the app provide inspiration for something to watch, read or listen to.
With the multiplayer game, the players’ apps are not really connected to each other. Players would typically be co-located each playing on their own device. One player sets up the match, which will be labelled with a unique match code. Other players can then “join” the match by entering the code. The code encodes the game options (question pack and number of questions) as well as a common seed for the random number generator. This way all players joining the same match will receive the exact same questions and will have the tiles revealed in the same order.
